Reconcile your environment to the installation requirements. This will solve greater than 90% of "cannot record" cases.
From your posting history it would appear that you are primarily a functional tester either being asked to perform performance testing duties or moving into the profession. If your manager has not sent you to training nor provided you with a mentor for your first half a dozen (or more) projects then you would have every right to question whether your management is interested in your success in this field or simply your billing for this service.
Thanks for your response. I perform both automation and performance testing duties. Have been using SilkTest and SilkPerformer for a long time and moved to QTP and LoadRunner.
I have been using LoadRunner for a couple of years without any issues and delivered multiple projects without any hiccups. I recently upgraded to VUGen 11.5 and can't figure out the issues with the IE hooks or connections to record these events.
On another note, we self-train whenever the org. decides on moving to new technologies.
Pick a side of the fence and specialize, either performance or automated functional. It will allow you to become a better engineer and deliver higher value to your downstream clients. If you did not have a professional development path involving training and mentoring then you are no better off than a self trained electrician, plumber, lawyer or dentist.
