VMware ESX server load testing?
I am attempting to test VMware ESX server capacity using the Microsoft RDP protocol. Normally the users would access a VMware session using the VMware View client connecting to the VMware Connect server and creating a session using PCoIP. Since HP does not currently support access this way I chose to use the RDP protocol.
I have been able to create a script that launches an RDP connection, logs into a WinXP VMware VM, the opens IE Explorer then iterates browsing to numerous web pages. This works fine with one user for as long as an hour. When using multiple users on each generator after a number of iterations the vusers start getting errors that severs the connection. Some of the errors are: “Connection reset by server”, “Error: Compression is not supported in Replay - the session has been disconnected.”, and “Warning: Unsupported PDU2 type: 28.”. The server logs do not indicate any problem on the VMware side. My thinking is that it is some kind of network issue. Please note that these users will successfully iterate quite a few times before these errors occur.
I modified the script to restart the session on error and this works but unfortunately when the vusers start getting errors the re-execution of the code that is in the init section drives the CPU on the load generators up to 100% and this kills the mdrv process. So, that fix is pretty much a bust as this happens with only 5 vusers.
I am using LR11 on Windows 2008 SP2 servers 64-bit for generators. I have also tried WinXP 32-bit generators and have the same problem.
I have worked this problem with HP support and I got good support but they were unable to help me. I give them credit as they tried for over a month giving me many suggestions. In the end since I am testing a current version of VMware, 4.5, R&D could not provide help.
If anyone has successfully load tested a VMware ESX environment could you let me know how you approached your testing. Any insight would be appreciated since my approach is not working.

Have you found solution for this, I am facing same exact issue.
