LoadRunner licence upgrade
Could someone confirm that you can't upgrade your total number of virtual users to the next level up with Loadrunner. Meaning, there is no way to upgrade from 250 VUs license to 1000 VUs license .. Basically only paying the difference.
If this is the case, it's crazy ...
Re: LoadRunner licence upgrade
LoadRunner VU pricing comes in tiered bundles, where 250 and a 1000 are but two examples. If you wanted to move from 250 to 1000, then you're looking at a non-standard number of 750. As an exception to the standard SKUs this would likely be handled on a one-off basis and pricing and (my best guess) pricing would be somewhere between purchasing a 500 and a 1000 user license to bring up to to 1000 total.
And no, it has never been the sales policy to "pay the difference in pricing" to move to the next level. If you could negotiate that, then that's great. But you're var or salesperson will have to fight lots of internal battles to have something so non-standard from both a sales and a sales-margin perspective go though. If you take away all of the margin in the sale you also then take away all of the incentive for the salesperson to fight.
As has been said, it is a free market. If HP or your sales rep is not being responsive to your desires then conider the other options in the market. If enough people take that path then HP may have some incentive to alter their sales model/policy. HP's vuser bundle model is not the exception when you consider the sales modles of the other large commercial players....it is more the rule. So, if you decide to switch you have an incentive to purchase the total number you may need up front. Or, get the organization to commit in writing to the ability to "move up" within 90 days (as an example) for the price difference.
