Today is very the first day I'm looking at Mercury loadrunner, so any pointers will be greatly appreciated!!
The users want to record activities in a web site using vugen, which generates the file action.c. Instead of manually adding transactions, the users want to automate inserting the transactions.
Is it possible to achieve this within loadrunner or need to write a parser separately?
Welcome to LoadRunner. There is a well trodden, defined path for success with the tool. It begins with training (which directly addresses your core question).
It continues with mentoring with a seasoned LoadRunner professional. First engagement, you are a junior. Second engagement, you are a peer. Third engagement, you are the lead. Then you become the mentor to the next generation.
Veer from the path at your own risk, for its success rate is well known and it is the exceptional individual rather than the average individual who deviates from the path and is successful.
Beyond the path, there is a set of skills you need to bring to the table.
<ul type="square">[*]Proficiency in the language used for your loadrunner sripting effort (C, VB, Java, ....)[*]An architectural view of applications and systems[*]Experience in monitoring and tuning systems independent of performance testing efforts[*]Manual Performance Testing skills (independent of tool)[*]Communication skills, specifically the ability to ground complex performance architecture concepts in common objects (i.e. the OSI model is like a birthday cake....). This is critical for the ability to communicate complex architectural and performance related issues to business and project managers[/list]
