We are purchasing HP tools with SAP as the re-seller of the HP products. Included in that suite, is LoadRunner. Unfortunately, the SAP bundling does not include AJAX.
The SAP LoadRunner bundle Includes:
LoadRunner Controller with all Monitors
SAP Protocol Bundle
– SAP (Click and Script)
– SAPGUI/SAP-Web Dual Protocol
Remote Access Protocol Bundle
– Terminal Emulation (RTE)
Web/Multimedia Protocol Bundle
– MediaPlayer (MMS)
– Web (Click and Script)
– Web (HTTP/HTML)
SOA Protocol Bundle
– Web Services
Unfortunately, we also have applications which use AJAX along with the Web protocol. When I use LR9.5 and use the Protocol Advisor, many of our apps come back with AJAX combined with Web - clearly stating:
We detected the following protocols in your business process:
AJAX (Click and Script)
Someone told me I can "get away" with strictly using the Web protocol for our apps - and won't miss much without the AJAX protocol.
Has anyone scripted with the AJAX protocol? If so, (1) Are there benefits to scripting using AJAX over straight Web? or (2) Can I get by with just Web and won't notice not having it?
Essentially, we'd now have to turn around and buy AJAX directly from HP - likely at a much higher rate than what we received for various products from SAP since we got a HUGE discount due to the SAP ERP purchase.

[/ QUOTE ]Definitely YES.
With the help of http analyzers (e.g. Httpwatch, HttpFox-Firefox addon), you will not miss AJAX protocol at all. For concurrent or asynchronous requests, you can use webconcurrentstart / end functions.
