is it a loadbalance or an application issue

I have a situation and I need your suggestion/help. I am testing a web application, which has two web servers and two application servers. The middle wear is weblogic, everytime I run a test I see one of the application server is spiked up in cpu utilization and the available idle threads count drops to zero of only one server and the other server remain under a very light load. This happened more than one time and it rotate the spiked server (sometimes server one spiked and the other time server two)…

The application team thinks it’s a load balance issue, and the load balancer team thinks its an application issue related to the application doesn’t release threads….how can we pinpoint the issue?

Enable ip spoofing from your load generator(s) to rule out ip-sticky. Have the admin for the content switch inform you of the load balancer method.

Re: is it a loadbalance or an application issue

I thought of using ip spoofing but i heard ip spoofing is not recommended because it might skewed the overall test result, does it? What is the disadvantage of using ip spoofing? Why ip spoofing is not popular technique in the http testing?

Re: is it a loadbalance or an application issue

IF you need to use ip spoofing
    ...AND you are not
...AND the content switch uses ip-sticky
    ...YOU already have skewed results
    END IF

ip spoofing is popular where I am. About 25% of my test suites require spoofing.
