We are in contract negotiations with SAP as a reseller of the HP line of products. As of right now, they propose implementing LoadRunner 9.1. I recently heard that LoadRunner 9.5 was released. So far, all I have heard that is different is the Protocol Analyzer tool which allows you to point LR at an app and it will help determine the best protocol to record your VUGen scripts in.
I am usually a proponent of the "latest & greatest" if I can get it, but want/need to justify whether to push for LR9.5 in our implementation. Can anyone who has upgraded please fill me in on the details of what is in LR 9.5 and identify differentiators from 9.1 that would make it worthwhile to begin with instead of starting with 9.1 and then possibly upgrading?
I can't think of any good reasons for a new installation to go in with 9.1. It would be prudent for you to ask your reseller exactly why they recommend doing that and then independently verify what they tell you. Their methods sound suspect to me...
Besides the significant stability improvements in VuGen, test execution, and failure resiliency, here are the top LoadRunner 9.5 improvements that I took note of:
+ Integration with Shunra’s VE Desktop for HP Software 5.00
+ UI for this is embedded into LR, but feature installer and licenses need to be purchased from Shunra (http://www.shunra.com/shunra_ve_desk...p_software.php)
+ Identify network issues in performance tests
+ Great for users working with 3rd party applications
+ Protocol analysis session which activates ALL existing VuGen protocol detection technologies
+ Added FLEX support for RTMP and externalized objects
+ Cross-step downloads (Asynchronous)
+ New Oracle Retail Protocols (ORMI) support
+ AJAX C&S support Dojo framework
+ Improved C&S replay scalability
+ Address request for secure communication between Controller and Load Generator
+ Custom extraction of data from LoadRunner results
Analysis File Optimization
+ Improve performance of loading results to Analysis
+ Full LoadRunner Windows Vista support
+ Remote Desktop Support: MS RDP agent, Citrix agent running on 64bit
+ VS 2005 compiler update
+ .NET 3.5 environment support
+ VuGen and Service Test coexistence
+ Logging: lg/mdrv crash handler, VUD license log
