The value of LoadRunner?
I have been using LoadRunner for 5 years. I am basically a one man shop with no mentoring opportunities and thus my progress has been slow. I have been a lurker for years but never felt qualified to provide constructive input to the board. We have a permanent license; our support/maintenance contract is current and active through June of 2009. I am using 8.14 with 50 MSSQL (DBLib) vusers on Windows XP. I believe I am using the new recording engine for VuGen recording. All my testing is database related, no web testing. I am told that SQL2008 will not support BDE so we are migrating over to ADO. ADO requires new vusers (COM/DCOM) and the quote was quite pricey. I have been tasked with looking at other alternatives. I know that LoadRunner is the industry leader but with the size of our operation it just may be cost effective to look at alternative options. The size of the scripts when dealing with COM on LoadRunner is 50 times larger than the simple scripts I am use to with BDE. We are going to ADO. I cannot change that. If you have any suggestions as to alternative solutions for testing ADO I would greatly appreciate it. If there are hidden advantages with LoadRunner I would appreciate it as well. Our shop is Delphi and I am looking at Borland’s SilkPerformer as one option but I am open to other suggestions. Although I did not go by the outline I believe I have supplied all the pertinent info required to allow for intelligent responses. Thanks in advance for your expert advice.

End-of-year deals with HP are possible. Negotiate! If you use HP hardware and other HP software, add that into the negiotiating olio.
The VBScript protocol may be a possibility for you. You will be able to test-drive this "protocol" in Vugen without having license to playback via LR or PerfCenter.
