Approaches to troubleshoot the CPU usage

Hi,

In my tests, I am seeing the CPU usgage for one of the webserver is reaching out to max 100% in the LR analysis graphs. But i am not sure what's causing this to go high. Can someone please suggest how to start troubleshooting this kind of issue. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Mona

Re: Approaches to troubleshoot the CPU usage

when you run a load test, the idea is to ramp up load until you hit a bottleneck in your system. If you are at an acceptable workload when you become CPU bound, that can actually be a good thing... CPU bound apps scale easier than IO bound apps.

If you are tuning the system and need to tweak it to go faster (or scale better), then there are lots of areas to look. It is likely somewhere in your application code. Profiling and refactoring your code may be a place to start.

After each parameter is tweaked or section of code is changed, re-run your perf tests to see if you can get to higher load before you peg your webserver.

tune, tweak, run tests, rinse, lather, repeat
