Deleting Unattached tests in Quality Center
I have two tests that are appearing in the Unattached folder in Quality Center. I would like to delete them, however, I have the same tests appearing in another folder within the Test Plan, and do not want QC to delete the test in that folder as well as the Unattached. When I try to delete the test, QC shows me a message stating that all of the test instances and results will be deleted, is this just for the test and its instances in the Unattached folder, or for the test as it appears everywhere in QC. Thanks a lot.
Re: Deleting Unattached tests in Quality Center
The message can be a bit confusing but what it is saying is that there is a link between the tests in the TEST PLAN and the their Test Instances in the TEST LAB.
If you create a test set and then add to it test A from the Test Plan then you now have Test Instance A on the Test Lab. You can have many instances in one or many test sets in the Test Lab that correspond to one Original Test in the Test Plan.
The message you are referring to is saying that if you delete the test in the unattached folder in the Test Plan and this same test happens to have Test Instances in the Test Lab in one or more Test Sets, these instances will also be deleted.
If you are wondering if there is a way to know if the test has instances and where are they, the answer is to right-click on the test in the Test Plan, you will see an option that will point at all its instances in the test Lab and that way you will know whether it is OK to delete it or not.
A bit complicated to get used to, but straight forward once you get it into your working method...
