Migrate from TD 8 SP2 to QC 9.2 question
I have a total of 4 servers. 1 TD server and its associated Oracle 9.2 DB (including projects), a new QC 9.2 server and a new Oracle 10G DB server. It appears that in my testing that I can point QC 9.2 to the database that is being used for TD and perform a migration. The projects then appear in QC but still reside on the old DB server.
Is it correct that by using the migrate tool, you can't "move" the data to a new DB server as well - all in the same process?
Based on my testing, it appears that I have to migrate the data (using all the same DB server), and then export the data from the old oracle server and then import it into the new DB server. What else would I have to do in QC to point to the new DB server?
Re: Migrate from TD 8 SP2 to QC 9.2 question
you are quite correct in saying that when the migration takes place that the data is not moved to the new DB server.
you can do the migration if your databases stays on the same machine. other than that i would suggest that you use your backups of your databases (old Oracle server) and copy all of them to the new DB server. then to restore all your databases.
you need to configure the new database server's details on the DB server tab of SiteAdmin on QC 9.2 to enable QC 9.2 to connect to the new DB server. you can also test the connection on that tab. please bear in mind that i don't know Oracle but that the migration basics for QC on SQL or on Oracle stays more or less the same. another tip that i can give you is read the installation procedure guide carefully and make sure that you stick to the guidelines that HP-Mercury gives you in the book.
i hope this will point you in the right direction if it does not assist you.
