link to existing defects

Is there a way to link a certain test or step to existing defect instead of creating a new defect?

Yes.

look at the tab list when you are in a test case in the Test Plan module - "Linked Defects"

AlexH,

If you have trouble with this, be sure to post which version of Quality Center you are using. QC9.0+ is very different than previous releases when it comes to linking defects.

I didn't think that changed from 8.X to 9.x, Boyd. But with your comment, I now know it did - care to re-educate me?

Unless I'm mistaken, version 9.0 is when Mercury opened the door for defects to be linked to items other than test plan tests. That's when we got the great ability to link defects to just about anything (test set, test instance in test set, run steps, etc) including other defects.

Re: link to existing defects

Actually, my query is the other way around!
We use QC9.0 defects module to manage our defects, and some users raise defects adhoc, without running Testcases. Not a problem, but when I am managing defects, I need to be able to quickly 1-step link a defect to a Test Case.

I cant figure out how to do this? Is it supported?
Second option is to excel script it I guess.

Hi fmiles:

Were you able to find out how to do this? I have a very similar requirement.

Please let me know.

Thanks.
