We have created fields like "status" and "Re-Raised Counter" for defect logging in QC. We want to apply a rule in such a way that if user selects status = Re-raised then "Re-raised Counter" field should become mandatory.
Is it possible to apply such kind of rule at field level?
Setting the required information only takes effect on loading of objects (Defect information, Test Plan information, etc). You aren't going to be able to make a system required field (shown red on the screen) while you are in the defect, and also remember changing the field information changes it for everyone, so if someone else is entering/modifying a defect and you change the field to mandatory, there may be another person seeing it as required when their information doesn't warrant it.
From a work-flow scripting point of view, you can check the value of any field and then prompt for information. Granted it will be difficult to ensure the user has actually changed the information unless you are capturing it on entry and the comparing it on exit, but you are able to prompt the user to ensure they are aware of the restriction.
