i want to export all the test cases in a specific test set into an excel sheet. any pointers would be helpful.
Please do a search on this in this forum and TestDirector forum. I think you'll find something to get you started with that. Then for more specific direction, revisit the question.
see my blog: www.sqablogs.com/rainbowtesting
try right click-> in a list of XL sheet and and -> export ALL option
Im also looking at the same issue, i performed a search but there is only instructions on exporting from excel to Qc. I just need to export tests already in Quality Centre to an excel file...anyone?
Loads of views but no replys!
Sussed it out finally.
User needs to have Admin rights - then there is a download to excel button. Then filter on the area and roberts your fathers brother.
Although rather than just saying that, i like the way people tewll you to go search first although there is no results on search but for anyone else..theres your answer

If you have found script to upload test cases from excel to QC, minor tweaking of the same should work for downloading.

Here is the answer you have been looking for.
Usually in QC under Test Plan section you will be looking at a "Test Plan Tree".
Firstly, you need to select View->Test Grid.
Then you can customize the grid by selecting the specific columns you wish to see in your excel.
Up to now you were provided with the view of all the test cases.
So now, you need to filter all the test cases to be left with the test cases you wish to export to excel.
So pick a column (e.g. Designer) and add the filter value (e.g. yourname).
By now you should be looking at all your test cases with specific fields shown. (Still in QC though)
To finish the process, Highlight all the rows and columns you now see and right click.
Down the bottom you will see the Export option.
The rest, you know...
