Traverse each test in Test Plan Grid view

    Hi All,

Client gave me a requirement to get the test step count for each of the test case in a particular folder in test plan.
In order to achieve this, I created a user defined field "TS_USER_01" and updated the code in "Test_MoveTo" subroutine
    THe code is
    TS_FIELDS.FIELD("TS_USER_01").Value = TS_FIELDS.FIELD("TS_STEPS").VALUE.
By moving each test case in the test plan grid view, I was able to get the test step count successfully.

THe challenge that I am facing is, the total number of test cases is 11000 and I have to manually click to move to each of the test case in the test plan grid view.
Can anyone suggest me how to enhance the above code so that I can get it done programmatically in few seconds.

    Thanks and REgards
    Athman

    I would approach it on a folder by folder basis;

    1. add a toolbar button that is visible only on TestFolder_MoveTo
    2. you will need to generate a list of tests in that folder, potentially including subFolders
    3. for each test in your list, update TS_USER_01 with step count as your currently doing.

You don't mention what output format you require or your ALM version, but this works for me:

(Excel SQL query, ALM version 12.20)

    Code:
    SELECT
    TEST.TS_TEST_ID,
    TEST.TS_STEPS

    FROM
    TEST LEFT JOIN ALL_LISTS ON TEST.TS_SUBJECT = ALL_LISTS.AL_ITEM_ID

    WHERE
    ALL_LISTS.AL_ABSOLUTE_PATH IN 'AAAAAPAABAALAAM'

Or perhaps I'm reading it wrong and you require a count on the Details tab?

Grid View in the Test Plan module shows you Test_Fields information, which are otherwise displayed on the details tab.

Can you tell us what this is going to be used for?
Do you really need TS_USER_01 (information displayed on details tab for every test, or selectively in the grid view), or could you generate an excel report that would replicate an export from Grid View.

An Excel report is "just SQL", so is pretty easy to generate.
There may even be an existing Business View Excel Report that will give you test steps information.
(depending on what version of ALM you're using).

Hi All. Thanks very much. I was able to achive the Test_MoveTo using UFT. I clicked each test case and moved and got the test step count.
