Upgrading from ALM 12 to ALM 12.53

    Hi All

Our organization is using ALM 12 and we are planning to move to ALM 12.55 which i think is the current stable version.

Is it a complete full upgrade from ALM 12 to ALM 12.55 or can i just install some patches to move to 12.53? Please advise

    Thanks in advance

The upgrade documentation will give you the answers you're lookign for:
    Installation Guides

If you're on 12.00-12.21 or lower then it's an upgrade, not a patch. The web client is removed in 12.5+

    More information required:
What version of ALM are you currently on?
What OS is your application server?

You may find that you also need a DB upgrade as 12.5+ has a different set of supported OS/DB versions (as you'd expect).

Thanks a lot for the valuable information.

Some how i was under an impression that it would be just a patch installation. We are currently on ALM 12.0 and with reference to other details regarding DB server and OS i can provide those details once i get back to work.

    Cheers

    our current configuration is

We have two VM's running, one for App server and other for DB server

App server is Win server 2012R2 with IIS 8.5
DB server is Winserver 2012 R2 with SQL server 2012 (version 11.0.6607)

From ALM 12.55 system requirements i see that ALM 12.55 supports Win Server 2012 R2 with SQL Server 2012. if this is the case then can i just have a new VM with Win server 2012 and IIS8.5 and install ALM 12.55 on it and point it to my existing DB server without touching the current DB server.

Any idea if this would work? or would you recommend me to move the SQL server also to SQL server 2014 which is a recommended DB server?

Your current app server and DB server are both sound like they would be supported for 12.5x
In which case, you don't actually need a new VM.
You can follow the instructions to upgrade in place on your current App server -- it'll be easier.

Just snapshot them both (app and db) forst so you can rollback if you need to.

Installing 12.55 on a new app server and pointing to the old DB is really more complicated as the new app server will make schema changes which will render the old app server unusable.

    HPE ALM/QC System Requirements

    Does that make sense?

    Yes, makes sense now.

I will uninstall ALM from App server and install new version. I will follow instructions from Install guide.

    Thanks for your valuable suggestion.

    I have question regarding licencing.

Would my current licence for ALM 12.0 work for ALM 12.55 after i upgrade or do i need to request for new licence for ALM12.55 after upgrade?

I have figured out that I need to regenerate licences for this new version as licence is locked to a version and this new version is a fresh installation.

    raise a request at softwaresupport.hpe.com
it won't cost you anything, assuming you're in support.

yes, we do have support paid with HPE/Microfocus.

We have raised a support request to get the licences regenerated.

    Hope it all goes well.

    Thanks once again
