Test Execution reports using QC Dashboard
I need to take test execution report and defects list report from QC. How to generate these reports? Can QC dasboard be used for this purpose? If so, please give me
some basic idea to do this. TIA.
What version of QC are you using?
As of QC v10 the Dashboard module includes the ability to build custom SQL queries that will write the output to Excel files. I don't remember if it was in v10, but in v11 you could also share the Graphs to external sources. Information on this feature is available from the product User Guide.

Thanks Trudy, I am using verion 9.2. My actual requirement is to create a chart/graph in word doc based on the reports taken on Test execution status and defects list status.
I wrote a query and ran to get the required data from QC in Tools -> Excel reports -> New excel report. Getting some security error while running the script written in post processing to generate charts. Instead of this method, i am looking for some other better methods.
I will go through the user guide. Also trying it by creating a test. Not sure which one is good method as i am new to QC. Please share you thoughts if you know a simple/better way than this.
You are getting the security error when you run a report with post processing because you have not allowed an external program to have security access to the VBA module in Excel. You can set this in the macro security settings in Excel. That solves your reporting issue.
Diya, your version of QC is totally outdated. 9.x is no longer supported and has reached the end of its lifecycle... Dashboard in 9.2 is a separate server setup that you need to have configured, which is completely redundant if you asked me...
My first observation is: upgrade to at least 11.0, if not 11.52.
In 11.0 you will have the dashboard module imbedded in QC, and you can set up any number of graphs to show for execution and defects lists (NB: excel reports do not go into dashboards, nor can they be published externally).
Back to your original question, you cannot do a word doc as a report in 9.2, that's only available in 10.0 (?, unsure), definitely in 11.0 (DOCUMENT GENERATOR). The defect list status (a list of all defects grouped by status i would imagine?) can be obtained in 9.2, as well as test execution status (look at SUMMARY graphs, and play around with the settings until you get what you're looking for)
In closing: UPGRADE immediately! - btw, HP will not charge you for upgrading licenses from 9.2 to 11.0, as long as you don't upgrade editions (Enterprise/Premier), so it's really the manhours internally that's going to cost you (+hardware changes if any, +client roll out).
It will make your life so much easier.
You clearly don't work for a large conservative corporation. Not everyone has control over the tools they are using. Some of us are still stuck with 9.2 and XP.
To the original poster, execl reports are more than adequate, read the manual that comes with QC. If you really need the chart in word you can copy it over manually or write a marco to do it.
