Uploading Testcases to ALM from multiple workbooks.
We got HP ALM recently and we are trying to import all our existing test cases to ALM. As we don't have a tool before we maintained all our test cases in Excel sheets. We got one test case in one work sheet. I uploaded a sample here as well for your reference. I know its easy to import test cases from excel to ALM if i got all of them in one excel sheet. I am attaching one sample below. we got hundreds of them. i just want to know is there any preferred approach to upload all of them to ALM.
As we got hundreds of work books being one test case for workbook is there a way to import multiple workbooks to ALM
is there any way to convert all out existing work books to one work book so that we can upload that workbook to AlM.
BEFORE you start you should identify what tests you actually NEED to import.
This can save you a mountain of work.
Unfortunately, the fastest way I can see you doing this task is importing each spreadsheet seperately.
You'll need to go thru each spreadsheet anyway and reformat it in a way that QC will accept it when you import it.
If you do it 1 spreadsheet at a time it's very easy to find problems with the import.
QC doesn't like some special characters and it doesn't import attachments.
You'll have to do the attachments in QC directly after you have imported the test.
See the Addins document for more info.
I have modified one of your spreadsheets to give you a basic example of what I think you'll need to do to get each test import ready.
The idea is that you can copy and paste the template in the IMPORT tab into each of your tests.
This will help you do things much faster.
Once you've gone thru a couple of tests, and are comfortable, it should only take a few minutes per test to format and import into HP QC.
