Parameterize Manual test execution in ALM
Requirement is as follows:-
I have a test suite of 100 test cases which have to be executed release after release (Regression). I am creating the test plans with parameter tags and want to pass values to those tags while manual execution. This is something that's integrated in ALM already.
But, the catch is I dont want the tester to enter the input parameters for each test case while executing. Instead, I want to create a parameter file (.txt or .xls) which can be associated to those 100 test cases and the tags can take input parameter from that file. That would help us to run these test cases with changing values for every release.
ypu can use the OTA API in teh workflow to open the data file from a shared location and based on the date ot some trigger pick the rows and prefill in the values at test case run action act_run.
Or you can just keep the xml, txt, csv file in your RESOURCES and utilize it when executing (that is also a manual process).
Or you can use Sprinter with it, makes much more sense (including the data injection). what version of QC are you running on?
If you take each one of those tests and turn it into a component, then when you add it to a test you can import parameter values for the iteration. Each release all you would need to do, is just import a new iteration file.
