My team recently got merged with another team that already was using QC and has tons of test cases created.
They did not have and release created or no requirements logged.
What I want to do is put all the existing test cases to a release say 'Current' and want to start adding new testcases to a new release called 'Future'
Is there a way I can do that. I created two folders in Management -> Release-> Current
Management -> Release -> Future.
Can someone help me find the best way to do the mapping in Quality center?
It appears that while you can map Requirements to Release Cycles in the field Target Cycle (note not to Releases) and you can map entities in the Test Lab to Release Cycles, the capability to map Tests in the Test Plan to Release Cycles is not available.
One alternative is to create a folder structure in the Test Plan module that mimics what you have created in the Management module, and move your test cases into the new folder structure.

imqe, You need to think a little differently on this one.
You don't directly relate tests in your Test Plan module to a release.
This is just a place to store your original tests.
You relate "Test Instances" to a "Release Cycle" via the Test Lab.
You must have a release structure set up in the Management -> Releases module.
A Release is a Major release i.e. 1.0
Inside the major release are Minor releases called Cycles.
You must have set up the Test Lab where you will be Executing your tests.
This includes at least a Folder, a Test Set and Tests assigned to the test set (called test instances).
You can now associate test instances to a Release Cycle by:
- Selecting the Folder.
- From the folder details screen you select the "Assigned to Cycle" drop down list.
- From there you will see the release structure from your Management -> Release module.
- Simply select the appropriate cycle <<<SEE ATTACHMENT>>>
This will now associate all test sets and tests under the folder in the Test Lab to the Release and cycle in the Release module.
It also provides some basic metrics you can utilise during reporting.
