I'm wondering if anyone knows what would be the best way to automatically make QC unavailable based on a set schedule.
I am running backups on the server file system as well as the databases starting at midnight. The DB backups only take about a half hour, but the file system takes a good 2 hours or more. I'm worried that, if someone decided to do some late night work that it will create differences between the two backups, causing a restore to fail. What I'm thinking is to just have the url become inaccessible for that period, and then re-enable it at 3am when the backups are no longer running.
With v11 a new feature is available in Site Admin to disable a user account. This feature is also accessible through the Site Admin API. You could write a program to interface to the Site Admin API to disable the users at the start of your down time, and then reenable them at the end of the downtime. Make sure that you leave at least one site admin privileged user enabled, as there must be one valid site admin user left enabled to be used with the Site Admin API to re-enable all the other users.
