Currently using ALM11 for defects, but another web-based application for Change Request. When raising a defect, i have a mandatory field for the CR Number. I can add a button to the toolbar, but i want to be able to open up the application (web-based) using the URL plus the value of the CR field.
I know it needs to go into the ActionCanExecute area, but that is as far as I can get (not a VBScript person).
The Administrator Guide has instructions and code sample for adding a toolbar button and modifying workflow scripts.
The tricky part will be getting the value from the field and then using it to open another web page. You're going to have to learn about the QC OTA API. Documentation is in the Documentation Library. In the Administrator Guide you'll also find information on passing values through global variable. Look for "global variables" and "storing the last values entered"
Here is an example of how to open another IE window to a specified page, using VBScript in a workflow.
commandString = "iexplore.exe http://www.google.com"
' The below code will open a new IE window with the specified URL
set wShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
varReturnCode = wShell.Run(commandString,3,true)
