I'd love to be able to setup QC to have a Defect template that I can modify from time to time. I have defects where alot of the attributes will be the same while I work on a section (e.g. Area). This gets to be a pain while entering 50+ defects for a section.
I don't want to set field defaults in Project Customization, since the fields will still be changing - I'd just like to have temporary defect templates.
Is this somewhere in QC that I'm missing? I have QC 10.0 Enterprise.
Not sure if this will work.. but it might be worth a try.
Within the Workflow script go to Toolbar Button Editor, and create a new button for the defects toolbar. Call it "Area Bug". Within the workflow add the code that will create a new bug and automatically assign the wanted value in the Area section. You might have a button for [GUI Bug, System Bug] etc, but then you just click a different button from the defect tool bar and the correct fields are automatically assigned.
Again, now sure if it will work, I am away from my system, but it is all I could think of. I dont believe a templating system like you requested exists.
It would be easy enough to insert an InputBox at _BugNew, where you could specify your 'area' before the BugNew form is presented.
You could use the input from this to set your 'defaults'.
This would be more intuitive to use than an additional toolbar button. The downside is the lack of validation.. users could enter anything and you'll need to write enough code to accept something 'valid' and ignore the rest.
