Quality Center downloader released
Hello fellow testers.
Tired of mucking about with the Quality Center API? Only need just the data in Excel, with no fuss? Tired of your testers wasting time and money getting data out of Quality Center for you? DIY Data Quality Center data extraction!
It is with great pleasure I announce the first release of QCTransfer. QCTransfer allows extracting of test data and metrics from Quality Center directly into Excel.
I have been searching for a utility to do this functionality for many years, and am very pleased to reduce testers workload by distributing this software to you today.
I have often been involved with extracting of data and metrics from Quality Center for practically every test manager I have worked with. Getting this data into Excel is a long and laborious process, and fraught with horrendous amounts of maintenance. Ironically the time test managers need this data the most is during the busiest parts of projects. QCTransfer is an attempt to make this process much simpler, and more configurable and provide options that Excel downloader macros just can't achieve.
Currently 3 different types of download are available:
Test Plans (actual test content, not test executions)
Future planned enhancements are:
Defect history downloader (Download each day to get a history of defects? not any more; download the history metrics for all your defects in one go)
Test Case executions (Want to track how well your execution is progressing? Want to use planned dates to get estimates on execution progress? soon!)
Each download is configurable to allow multiple criteria for download, so only what you want is downloaded. Multiple downloads can be maintained at the same time. Also the downloads can be chained to run at one after another. Scheduling is planned for the very near future, and you will be able to see how this functionality will work in the current download, however this functionality is currently inactive.
Each download is configurable to download to any Excel spreadsheet, any tab, and even the target columns are configurable. Every field of the datatypes is available for download.
In the next few weeks I will be releasing a version which allows scheduling and macro execution against a timeline.
Imagine being able to capture defect metrics from QC at 5am every weekday, and execute a macro to send it out to managers!
Further into the future I will be establishing a set of excel sheets in order to make the process of integration even simpler. Reports such as Aged Defect reports and defect history charts.
Pricing is scalable from contractors who simply need one task for a short contract all the way up to companies who require a site license for all functionality.
Anyway, download it from the website and give it a go against your own QC instance!
