Hi and thanks in advance (hopefully )!!
Today I was running Quality Centre into Quick Test Pro (QTP) as I do, and something that I have never seen occured. I normally run remotely, but this error happened when i ran locally using QC->QTP. The problem is that the status in QC for the automatic runner in test lab returned a pass. This would be fine, but what i witness is QTP launching the test and not executing. It simply opens the test, stops running and returns a false positive. This is upsetting as I rely on QC to run my tests and it meant I had to open each test in QTP to run them and get our software tested prior to release. One other thing that might help ye is that it has never happened before but happened intermittently today. It wasnt working for about 2 hours, worked again and then stopped working. My guess is a network problem. Has anyone seen this before? I appreciate your time and will reply to any questions.
Re: Running QC status incorrectly updates to passed
I don't think it's a network problem. From my experience, when a QTP automated test is initated from QC, QC sends everything QTP needs at the start and then relies on QTP to execute, collect results and then send back on completion. Network problems would show themselves right at the start of this process. Also, QC populating a Passed result wouldn't happen unless QTP sent it a passed status. My best guess is that there is something wrong with your automation script.
Have you tried running the QTP script manually on your local machine?
A suggestion would be to add very clear and precise commenting to the results sent back to QC so that debugging is made easier.
