New to QC /QTP and need to support 50+testers
Hi all - I work in a QA department supporting all of our automation initiatives. We're switching over from an in-house tool to QC/QTP. I'm trying to learn the products on my own with some help from some extraordinarily bright folks, but they're more focused on the QTP side. I need to determine the best way to set up QC for our environment. Here's a bit about the environment - I'm particularly concerned with having the ability to assign tests to multiple weekly cycles in montly releases.
- Code moves out weekly. We currently have approximately 1500 test scripts, 70% of which are executed weekly.
- In addition to the weekly regression, there is new functionality added and rolled out either with or independent of the weekly "package"
- There are emergency moves almost daily, which never flow through the testing process, but the test environment is part of the migration path.
- There are 14 "products" broken up into about 30 product areas
I envision setting up monthly regression releases with weekly cycles, and assigning the pertient test lab folders to each of the weekly cycles. Each product will have a "New Features" directory and a "Weekly Regression" directory. (The new feature testing will follow a slightly different process since the cycles can overlap and range from 1 week to 10 months.)
Problem is, with so many product areas and such short cycles, I want to avoid recreating the cycles (or duplicating them every week). I'd like to set them up annually, but can't seem to assign a test folder to more than one cycle. Can it be done? Any other ideas on how to manage such an environment?
Thanks for any input, and apologies for the verbosity!
Re: New to QC /QTP and need to support 50+testers
I figured it out some time ago. No longer have a need to, though, because I'm in a new team now supporting c sharp applications (which is presenting a whole new set of challenges).
