Recently I have visited a website and it promotes 'uTest' which has an online registration kind of thing and on becoming a registered user, you will be given some opensource/online application. All that you have to do is find bugs in the application and based on its severity, if it gets approved, then you will be paid for that defect.
Do anyone has more idea regarding this online application bugs finding concept. If so, please share here.
I had registered with uTest a month back and just yesterday I received an email from them asking me to start testing their pilots.
Well, I have been doing a lot of research on uTest since I heard about the concept. I kind of thought it was too good to be true. I am still not sure how far to get into it. My research shows:
1. It pays you per bug via Payoneer debit card system
2. Some of the testers are of the opinion that this could be a scam as Payoneer charges fees everytime you withdraw money from ATM
3. Why is uTest not using PayPal?: uTest says it is working on that (some of the testers are not convinced)
4. I came across the following comment by one of the testers on his blog:'When I tried filling the Payoneer form, it asked me for my SSN and birth date'. That was when this gentleman opted out of registration.
I have yet to start working on any of their projects as I do not know how far is this real. I also went ahead and tried their phone number (in MA). Nobody picks up the phone ! When I logged in on their site I did see a lot of bugs reported and also a lot of testers logged in. But there is no way to find out if these are real testers or some virtual gimmick !
Well, if any body has any more info on uTest, you are more than welcome to share.
