Reasons for leaving your job

Kindly give some valid reasons why you have to leave your current job and look for a better one. Is doing nothing almost everyday for 2 months consider as a valid reason for leaving? Please advise cause I'm really bothered if I need to look for another job where I can practise and improve my skills as a tester. Thank you so much.

Any reason you decide to leave your job is "valid".

Depends on where you are in your career, and the prospects at the current positon.

I'm with you, sitting idle drives me crazy. One can only browse the web and/or be motivated to study at work only so long...

If the prospect of being busy with relivant work is not in the near future, and no training is in the works, I'd sure be keeping my eye out for a new position.

But be glad! You are in the enviable position of having employment while you look.

Re: Reasons for leaving your job

There are times when I wish for something like this. I would love to expand my knowledge base a little bit, and I have some serious automation tasks that I need to get done, but I'm tasked on like 3 different projects right now.

Check out the thread here on what to do during downtime. You might find some useful stuff there.

Re: Reasons for leaving your job

I appreciate all your comments. They are really a great help. To elaborate more on my current status, I've been employed in this company for 2 months now. I've left my previous company where I've worked as QA Specialist and also as a programmer for almost six years. My main reason for leaving is that I want to gain more knowledge about Software Testing. We were not also given even a single training there because they've considered us as their support and not part of the operations. Btw, my previous company is a call center that's why they don't pay much attention to IT department.
The company where I work now is an IT company. I don't have any problem regarding salary and benefits. I am well compensated here. The only problem I see right now is the lack of opportunity to learn. I can count the days that we did manual testing(usability, functional and regression testing). Most of the time we're idle.
What I do to make my brain working? I'm doing web designing using Dreamweaver and html. I've finished doing my personal site as well as our church website and until now, we're still doing nothing lol. Oh what a great life. But sorry, I do not enjoy doing nothing. Money alone can't make me happy with my work. I want to feel joy with what I can accomplish and I wanna feel the sense why my work matters.

I'm thankful to God and I've found this site where I can spend most of my time lol.

Re: Reasons for leaving your job

If you've only been with this company 2 months, then the reason is, the opportunity wasn't the right fit for you. The first 90 days are a trial period for the company as well as for yourself.

Re: Reasons for leaving your job

If you really wnt to make yourself stand out find something to do, don't wait for it to be handed to you.

Take this time to analyze how your group does things are there ways to make it more efficient, or better organized?

Is there any utilities you could create or templates that would make things better for everyone in the future?

I am sure there are things that you could do that would be helpful to the team as well as create good will for yourself.

When I hire someone I hire them because I expect them to be able to do the job, part of that job is for me to not have to babysit them all of the time. A proffesional should be able to find ways to add value without having to be told what to do.

I totally agree with scottv42.. you can do an evaluation of the current set-up of the team and the processes.. and you can work your brain cells up by thinking of some improvements to be done..

as an SQA personnel, there are more tasks than meets the eye.. lots of templates to be created, proccess to be enhanced, documents to be reviewed, guildelines to be drafted, not to mention the usual testing of the application, and the lists goes on..

i'm sure you'll be able to contribute a lot to the team, especially with your background as a programmer & QA specialist.. that is, unless they just want to add another name on their payroll...
