I have been working in testing for 7 years+ for four different companies. In my experience manual test scripts are almost always written in MS Word using it's table formatting.
However, I often find it frustrating that as soon as a script stretches over 15 or so pages Word will often slow down or in extreme cases may grind to a halt. I figure the table in Word was never really designed with test scripting in mind. I know there are frequently ways to break test scripts down into smaller chunks etc but there are often occasions when this isn't practical.
So my question - does anyone know of a word processor type application designed exclusively for Test Scripting? Or at least an application that is happy to have tables of text stretching over a large number of pages?
P.S Please don't suggest Excel which I don't find particularly user friendly when alot of text is involved.
I would suggest that you reconsider Excel. You can have the nicely formatted document in Word, and the easy to handle tables in Excel. One Merge from the excel spreadsheet to the Word document, and you have what you need, a nicely scripted word document with easy to manipulate excel tables inserted.
i started out writing my test cases and scripts in word, but when the documents got bigger i suffered the same problems you mentioned.
Recently i started working with Excel and i am liking it. I will not use ms word anymore for this type of work. Excel just has more to offer.
