i am new to testing.I have gone through the winrunner manual. can anybody pls tell me how the functional testing, regression testing r done ?? what r the points to be considered ?
is there any good book where i can get basic info ?
how actually the work is alloted to the tester ??
Any testing that is based on validating that all functionality in the application is working based on the stated requirements is functional testing.
Regression testing is a repetition of these tests after each modification to the application to be sure none of that functionality has been altered inadvertently due to these changes.
There is a lot more information if you search the forum site, with references to books and papers. I often recommend Rex Black's "Managing the Testing Process" because it gives you a good view of what is involved, and then you can research as many specific techniques as you want later. Good luck with your efforts.
I am taking a quote from RichW in another forum for a recommendation
"you shouldn't just start testing with a tool and no experience in testing. My suggestion is first you learn the basics of manual testing, then you learn a programming language relevant to the tool you plan on learning such as "C" for the TSL scrip used by WR."
