Re: What is the difference between \'Verification\' and \'Validation\'

Shortly put: validation deals with the question "are we doing the right things?", verification deals with the question "are we doing the things right?".

Meaning, verification is process-oriented, validation is product-oriented.
Yours,
Ofer

Thanks for your answer Ofer.
So, In terms of testing...
validation is something like 'validating the business rule and finding if the business rule make sense or not' and verification is just making sure if the business rule fuctions correctly or not..

Does a qa person need to have product knowledge ( like poroduct mgr ) for validations?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">FYI - there is no service level agreement regarding quick response times. Responses to questions are provided by volunteers. There is not a strong tendency to answer interview questions here either.

At any rate, had you used the Search facilities - you could have found this question answered many times over. Self-help is strongly encouraged!

Re: What is the difference between \'Verification\' and \'Validation\'

verification is done before implementation of a product ie,it concerns with design specifications,
where as validation is done after implementation of a product and concerns with requirement specifications.

verification involves reviews and meetings to evaluate documents, plans, code, requirements and specifications and validation involves actual testing.

sree_basam, I agree with kishore_chilukuri. To clarify using your example:
Verification will check if you designed the business rule test correctly (used the right template, covered all needed test cases, etc.). Validation is the actual testing of the business rule.

Re: What is the difference between \'Verification\' and \'Validation\'

Verification is the review of documentation, technology, and code. It is testing that does not execute code. Examples are inspections and walkthroughs. It's also called static testing.

Validation is a dynamic testing that evaluates a system or component during or at the end of the development. It is the testing that does execute code. Examples are white box, black box etc.

Hope it will help.

Re: What is the difference between \'Verification\' and \'Validation\'

Validation always comes first: to make sure that requirements mapped exactly to a general design--- so you building a right system.

Verification - after validation is done (you already made sure that you building right system) you make sure that you building your system right - design (requirements) mapped to exact functionality as documented.
