I am developing a suite of shareware software quality assurance tools beginning with a software metrics tool ... for details).
I am looking for beta testers. Either individuals or organisations, as well as feedback regarding the feature set both current and proposed. This looks like a good place to find the correct audience. I would be grateful if anyone would care to evaluate the software and/or direct me to other appropriate forums.
The rules against advertising aside, the individuals who participate in these forums are professional testers. Some of the best in the business. This means none of them work for free. You are charging for this product - both for lease and purchase. If you want your product QC'd by professionals, you will have to offer something in return. There are many companies that would like to have testing services for free!
In terms of beta testing, as you advertise your product as a tool for developers, it would be my suggestion that you solicit beta testers in forums or magazines that cater specifically to your intended customer base.
I apologise if this has come across as advertising. My previous posts were removed without me receiving any feedback regarding the policy. I take it for granted that no forum wants spam in it. I was expecting to recieve some kind of "your post was rejected by the moderators" message when I realised cross-posting was a no-no. I didn't receive anything and the posts seemed to vanish so I am trying again.
I would like to think that these forums were of use to more people than just professional testers.
I remember visiting some time ago when I as a developer was looking for information on testing tools of one sort or another. Not every person or company has the budget to afford some of the big players and there is definitely room for a more and cheaper products to fill the gap. Actually I am surprised there is not an "other" forum for tools other than those specifically listed.
Ideally I would be developing products entirely open source, the shareware fee is there to pay the bills. Of course, anyone beta testing gets to use the software for free which as it is a kind of QA software is hopefully giving them a helping hand with their QA.
I hoped to find a few developers without the luxury of dedicated test teams here. As well as, testers who had contact with developers.
I'm sure you'll agree that quality assurance goes right though the lifecycle and includes both developers and testers.
Software metrics tend to fall in the gap between developers and testers. You might want to know the number of bugs per 1000 lines of code for example which requires communication between the two camps. I have seen a few tools out there but none seemed to quite fill the niches I've been looking at.
I certainly intend to solicit from more developer oriented places. I had hope developers with an appreciation for quality issues might end up in a place like this.
Perhaps my questions would be better pitched in the form of "does anyone make use of software metrics in their development and testing?" and "what features would your ideal testing tool have?". Surely this is the right place to ask those questions?
