Although my case isn't the norm for the industry. I've been places where I have to work with the other departments, scheduling around their workloads to try to accomplish the smallest things. It is a good idea though to have someone in the company's QA department to be able to handle configuration of servers and system workings just to bring in the small things as needed for the testing situations sometime demand.
