    star rating

Is there any way for all posts to start off with a 2 star rating?

That way when you come across a nonsense post, you can vote it down and warn others to stay away from it.

At the moment things start off unrated, so even rating it as 1 star makes it stand out.

    Re: star rating

Maybe it should start as a 3, as that is the middle number.

PS. I just tested this theory by rating this as a 1. This rating has no bearing on the actual quality of this post which, as you have probably already worked out, is exceptional.

    You're welcome.

    Re: star rating

Interestingly, my rating of this post had no effect. Which seems like a sensible result.

Mustn't be too silly. Can we get 6-stars?

    Re: star rating

I'd rather see the ability of a moderator to "lock and delete after 48 hours" and for this to be used very often to remove any content not contributing to the good of the site. Of course, this is not likely to happen because we can't offend the new users too much and risk click-through revenue. </sarcasm>

Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
    Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
    Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

    Re: star rating

I think using several stars as a starting point for a thread will be "polluting" the forum. I think they are meant to be used to a) highlight good threads and b) warn about terrible threads.

In addition a 3 star up-front rating will get confused with a true average thread which deserves a 3 star rating

    Re: star rating

Then maybe we need brown turds also. 5 brown turds would be a really bad post.
