Thank you guys, I have a phone interview, Its for a junior position, and this is my first interview call. I did get some help from my instructor in class, but I think you guys helped me out as well. any others?
One of the main questions I ask people coming to work for my teams is "why do you want to be a tester?" and "what do you think makes a good tester?".
Remember that some questions in your interview will be about your technical expertese but a Test Manager will also be looking to see if you as a person coming have got the right mindset so think about how you'd answer those questions as well
As a junior qa tester - I would expect questions such as these ( I have heard these..)
1 - What are the components of a system test plan (ex Scope, risk, areas to test, test data..)
2 - What is a traceability matrix (mapping test cases against requirements to ensure test case coverage) **this is not a typical question, but you may hear it..
3 - How do you address resolving a bug once you identify it...? (answers - document the issue in bug tracking db, then notify developer, follow-up often until issue is resolved and implemented in next 'build' of software)
4- What is the SDLC (software dev life cycle) - Requirements, design, development, test phase, User Acceptance, Release to production.
5 - Get a good understanding of web applications in general, backend environments such as unix...
6 - get a book called 'Software testing in the real world' by author KIT -- good stuff here...
Good luck with interviews -- remember to be energetic on phone interview and not too wordy....try to focus on clear responses..usually these phone interviews are pretty tame , just to see if you have the general knowledge a candidate may require....
