In India, there is no much focus on the white-box testing process. In all the software organizations, the QA/QC departments are only focusing on black-box testing strategy. Most of the code related testing is done by the development teams itself. Is this the scenario outside India (in the world) or howz it... I am very much interested to know about the scope of white-box testing..and the need for white-box testers everywhere. Hope I get a good response for my topic...
I don't think that you will find a pool of "white box testers" or "black box testers" in the rest of the world. As mentioned in many previous posts, these are more testing techniques than test types. You will find more focus on test types or phases, such as unit testing, integration testing and performance testing. Any of those tests can use either blackbox or whitebox techniques to carry out the testing.
Generally what I see is testing from an end user/UI/GUI standpoint whether it is developers, interation testers, systems testers, uat testers, what-have-you. Depending on who is executing the test determines how he/she proceeds with an issue, defect, or enhancement.
Developers will may log it with technical knowledge of the application. Is that "white-box"? Or unit testing?
Integration and System testers will log it from the requirement # or id and throw some things like "prevents execution of x test cases" or whatever.
