Source Code Metric Tool

Hello!

Does Anybody know a tool that calculate the ciclomatic complexity (as knows as McCabe Complexity) for languages as PowerBuilder, Java, C, C++, PL/SQL and Visual Basic?
Can be cases of open source tools or not. Isn't necessary that the tool has supported all the languages, but at least the one .

tks,

Re: Source Code Metric Tool

Do a search on Google for "Software Static Analysis tools" and you will get a bunch of links to check out.

For C/C++ you can look at CDoc, for PowerBuilder there is PBAnalyzer (http://www.ascensionlabs.com/index.html) and this link goes to a free download (http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/P..._Analyzer.html), for VB you can look at Project Analyzer 7 (http://www.aivosto.com/project/project.html).

For the SQL stuff I have not found a code analyzer yet, but if your in MS-SQL Server I think there is some built in tools for checking the SQL query or stored proc.

Re: Source Code Metric Tool

Hello Jim (jimhazen)

Unfortunately the PB Code Analyzer (http://www.ascensionlabs.com/index.html) does not make the calculation of the cyclomatic complexity (McCabe) and I still did not find tools that make this.
For the PL/SQL exists a package in the Oracle 8i and 9i that does the code coverage (DBMSProfiler), but did not find none that calculated the cyclomatic complexity of the code. If knows something that it can help, please, communicate me.

Grateful,
Paulinha

Grateful,
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">They call their Cyclomatic Complexity metric by another name (can't remember off the top of my head what it is, been a couple years since I used the tool), but it does give you a complexity indicator metric. I talked with the people at Ascension about this and they stated they just renamed it, why I have no idea but it worked for the project I was on.

Look through the eval of the tool and you will find that the metric name they use is really CC.

Re: Source Code Metric Tool

While maybe a little time consuming I'd think calculating SQL CC by hand wouldn't be that hard. If your programmers did this by hand I think they would learn a lot about keeping complexity down.
