Do you need this really? What objective evidence do you have to make that determination? The grievances/symptoms described below indicate a need for process rather than necessarily a change at the level you are suggesting.
We have a large application with many users and it is continually undergoing many changes.
This is the nature of most software.
Our developer does crap for QA.
So we always have to send it back for bug fixes.
Your job relies on existence of defects. As long as humans develop software, there will be defects and thusly - the need for verification and validation.
The next version we are purchasing the source.
So we want to make sure they are making it right.
How will you know that it is right - by what spec or otherwise?
Also previously there was an SI (System Intergrator) involved.
But this time we are dealing direct with the Developers.
So we must manage the CM (Change Management) of the implementation.
Unless you have an effective manual CM process - no tool will help you.
Is there an SAP package that will allow us to work with our developers by
A) Introduce a CM item
B. Monitor the CM as a UTP (Unit Test Plan)
C. Have the vendor/developer validate the UTP
D. Take the UTP through a QA or Performance Testing phase
E. Allow us and them to confirm possible parameter changes required for implementation of the CM
F. Further discuss/validate the installation process
H. Throw bug issues back as they come up
Etc. and so on...
I'm not certain that SAP or PeopleSoft will address these needs specifically, and as well as other tools in the market made specifically for this - such as Rational/RUP and related offerings.
or am I just dreaming??
