I got a project where upgrade of Java Runtime on both Windows and UNIX applications will be tested.
Anybody got any ideas on testing areas to focus on and where testing pitfalls and troubles are likely to arrise?
The test approach I ponder to take is:
1a. JRE install fresh on clean box with none of our applications
1b. JRE is upgraded, with all or some of our applications previously installed.
2. Thereafter excersise the GUI shallowly to verify that nothing major is broken.
Q1: Does anybody foresee any major gap in this test approach?
Q2: Any got any useful file version inspect diff tools/scripts for setup testing on UNIX?
