how did you do your first test planning?
I just joined one company 4 months ago and doing my system verification testing now. Before, I did not do any testing actually. And after I join this company, I attended SVT testing for one of client side of the their big product. Then my manager ask me to do test planing for the whole client side of this product for next release. I realized this would be a very good chance to take more important role in our dept. But I really have no experience on this. May I get any advice from you, testing experts? I really appreciated if you can share your test planing experiences with my, like what I should focus on and what knowledge I should prepare and what's kind of doc I should take to be my reference for test plan normally? thank you very much for your time.

Please refer to this link:
Also, using the search facilities to the upper right of the page, search this site for "test plan" or "test planning" for other pointers and links.
I would also recommend a book. Check this link - click on books.:
Your focus should begin with identifying what has to be tested and work in order that the end user(s) can do work. Once you have identified what has to be tested, you can then go through a process that ranks and prioritizes tests such that you know what is most important and/or complex (susceptible to breakage). You can also begin the drill down from what-to-test to how-to-test-the what.
I hope this is enough to get you started.
