I am managing the testing lab in my new job. The hardware in the labs is very dynamic.
Each test the tester changes the hardware configuration to perform the test. (Motherboard; RAM; telephone card etc).
More of that several testers working in the, and they perform several tests in one day!!! During the day the lab seen like BIG mess.
I need some help - how to manage this lab in real time? Documents? Website that describes the PC configuration + tester name?
Sounds like there needs to be a lot of control over who does what test with what equipment. Without more information on any processes are in place right now, I'll just throw some stuff out, you may already do some of this.
I assume that all of the different hardware configurations are predetermined and listed somewhere, if not, they should be.
Divide the list up by the number of testers and give each one a section.
To control the mess of chips and boards, maybe you could come up with a library type system, where all of the boards are stored on shelves, separated by type and such. When the tester needs to swap a piece of hardware, they bring you (or the librarian ) the one they currently have checked out and check out the part they need, if it isn't there, then they move down to another configuration where the parts are available.
