What is the difference between a QA Engineer and Testers? Is the work done by both of them the same? What is the qualification each is supposed to have? I have come across job advertisements refering to QA, Testers and sometimes Quality Assurance Engineers. Can anyone distinguish between these Designations?
Re: Differenciate between Testers and QA Engineers?
The "technical" diffeences are realted to what section of the process they most are involved in. A tester is usually defined as the individual who actually performs (and most times creates) the tests against the system, and the QA Engineer works toward the process improvment of the Quality Process by ensuring documented procedures are being followed, and works toward constant process improvement.
My experience in reality has been quite a bit different. All but one of my 5 jobs that I have had since college have been bouncing between the two with one title or another. I currently do both, and my week's load changes from one aspect of each to the next depending on what needs to be accomplished first. I also do more procedural work in my current position(85%) that I did in my last (10%), and the job title is the same (Sr. Quality Assurance Analyst).
So after all that, I guess all I am saying is that it depends on the company. When I am being interviewed, I always at some point ask what the definite job responsibilities are going to be for me if I were to be hired. That title really doesn't mean much as each company pretty much makes it up as they go.
