Inter operabilty testing?
Hope this is the right forum to post....
1)Can you define inter-operability testing?
2)How could I go about doing Inter operabilty testing for the following scenario ?
3)Does this fall under any particular category of testing?
4)At what stage in the testing process do I need to test this for?
There is a system X that has applications A,B,C and D is the new application being developed. Assuming that either one of A,B,C can be dependent on D, what testing procedures do I need to apply to make sure that D can/will co-exist with A,B,C and does not bring down the sytem or one of the other applications.
Appreciate the help.Thanks!

Re: Inter operabilty testing?
This type of scenario may come under compatibility testing. You may have to prepare a test matrix which covers the combination of A,B,C,D. If I understood correctly you can keep the application D and try with A alone, B alone, C alone and Then AB without C, AC without B, BC without A etc... You try to cover both positive and negative cases
