I've been working as a "Software Test Engineer" for about one year. I got into it via development. So I think I know what I'm doing: we have a software test plan, and I've written software test descriptions based on the reqs. We've got the bug tracking and CM of all software versions and docs sorted out. We hold Test Events for the customers and we're automating with WinRunner.
The problem is, I've never been educated formally in testing. I've never even read a book on the subject. I think I saw a thread some time ago recommending books - but I can't find it now. Suggested readings, anyone? Also I'd like to know if there are courses offered at tech colleges. I'm in the Vancouver, Canada area.
When I navigate around this site, I'm still reading about lots of things that I don't understand. Any help would be appreciated.
I am in the same situation as you, I am doing manual testing for the moment, then i will move on to automated. I am a co-op and started w/o a clue of how to test. I would suggest to go to www.stickyminds.com, they have a lot of useful info.
