    Re: Protocol testing

What kind of industry or type of protocol you are looking for?

Protocol seems difficult to me. I have been fiber channel industry before, and till the day I left after a year, I am still having a lot of confusion.

Not to mention, trying to know protocol in a day for interview is even tougher. Be yourself and answer what you know. Interviewer can be easily find out what you know and what's not.

Of course, you have to pick up some general terms before the interview but not go too detail and not knowing what are they. Interviewer may ask you about a specific ANSI standard of the protocol that you claimed to know, or even have you draw out a diagram of the architecture. Refer to the sample terms and diagram and Header structure that may be asked.

    Good luck !!

    Re: Protocol testing

I see protocol testing as just very strict API testing. All of your pieces have be lined up for the protocol to work. Very structured.

A lot of my tests would be geared towards the negative testing side. Badly formed frames, packets, etc.

Maybe I'm seeing this wrong, but that's what I think of it.

    Alanark

Agreed with you. The time I was in protocol testing, 80% of time spent on api level negative testing. Developers came up with the test driver to test those APIs.

    Re: Protocol testing

Guess what-the tests needed where simple pinging from one machine to another, to see that the web application being tested is ok.
I have not been told if I passed the interview-but hey I tried.
Just another query-how do I negative test with the ping options(for example ing -c -l etc etc)Please advise.
Sincere regards and thanks to E-Quality and alanark for their inputs.
