i'm looking to change careers. i have two friends that are qa analysts who had no experience in the field when they were hired. one friend does not have a college degree while the other has the same degree that i do. our degree is in health information management. it's a little known field dealing with medical records. when we graduated from college, i took a job in the field while she was offered a job at a healthcare software company. i've been trying to break into the field but no one seems to want to give me a break. i have taken programming classes and other computer related classes such as database management, human computer interaction (we had to design, test, and implement a web site) and systems analysis.
in my current job a deal with quality but from a different stand point. the main part of my job is to read and classify diagnoses and procedures from medical records (our title is "coder"). i also conduct quality audits on other coders work. i create reports for hospitals using.
i think i have to skills to be a qa tester. is there any training i could get? or should i just wait for someone to give me a break?
i hope some one can please give me some advice. thank you
