I was wondering if anyone out there had some experience in diagnostics testing telecom software - primarily to diagnose faults in the application layer. I was looking for research material on this and couldn't find too many white papers etc about it. Was wondering if someone could give me a knudge in the right direction.
I work for an optical networking company myself and have just begun this search without much luck. There doesn't seem to be much support for automated testing using telecom equipment. We have an old copy of Test Expert, but I've heard the company that makes them is out of business (First Silicon Valley Software, then Veracomm). But I know that Nortel and some other big telecom companies were still using it up until very recently.
Someone recommend the following: Rational Robot and Segue Silk for functional testing, Rational Performance Studio and Compuware QA Load for performance testing. I've just begun the process of talking to their reps, so I don't know if it works or not. They seem to be more web-based.
It sounds like we might have the same problem. Send me an email and maybe we can pool our resources to solve the problem.
