I really wondering how good to have a web testing at home? Do they get paid with cash or as a usual payroll employees? Anyone company doing this way of testing (contracting out the web application to individual) ?
How does the web tester verify logs which resides in the web server? How does the tester start and stop the web app?
Personally I can't resist contactign websites to tell them about bugs or just plain bad design. I don't get anything for it but one place did try and get me interested in sending off a CV when I signed off as 'Professional software tester' (I had pointed out a serious usability problem). They were a bit of a shakey looking dot-com so I wasn't interesed!
For our home based web tester, she was on Payroll just like everyone else and she was part-time. Since she was only doing usability and work-flow type testing, she did not have access to any logs nor was she able to start and stop the app. The majority of the testing took place inhouse.
A friend of mine is doing this now. She just came off maternity a few weeks ago. She is in the office 2 days a week and at home the other 3 days. If she needs anything done at the office, she just calls in and someone takes care of it for her.
