    Seniort Engineer ot Team Lead?

When is a test/qa engineer a senior engineer & when is he/she a team lead?

I've felt i've been a de facto team lead of a few people for a while but maybe i'm just a senior qa engineer?

As i'm not officially a team lead I don't tell others what to do but do advise on who should do what & when plus solve others problems.

    Which am i?

btw i want to be a team lead

I say Senior since you aren't telling people what to do, only advising.

Re: Seniort Engineer ot Team Lead?

As a Team Lead, I was acting as the assistant or backup to the QA Test Manager in his absence. I was also responsible for specific projects within the QA department and able to assign people to what needed to be accomplished. In a Senior role, it was more for recognition of my abilities within QA Test and was given more duties to align with that role (i.e. train incoming analysts, maintain the test environment, etc.).

This leads (no pun intended) me to my next question.......

How to impress a new QA/Test team Manager?

i.e. position myself as senior QA in a flat (no juniors or seniors) team structure.
