    Funny interviews for testers

As a tester I had several interveiws in my life. And every time my interviewers were programmers.
Every time I had the same question from them: "What kind of languages I know?"
    Isn't it funny?
Nobody asks a programmer: "What kind of methods of testing do you know?"
Especially for blak box tester, it doesn't matter at all what kind of language was used for this or that application. It doesn't matter is there UNIX, Windows xxxx or anything else.
To learn any of languages? But I have to spend lots of time to improve my knowledge in my field.
Or may be I don't understand somthing?

This scenario is flawed from the outset - I wouldn't worry too much about what was asked at such an interview.

Find a company who bothers appointing a person who knows at least something (and preferably a lot) about the area you will be working in.

Andrei, it seems there are still a lot of job in Canada for testers. If you have a job now, try to spend some time for "any kind of languages", because job market is awful in US and I suppose the same things will be very soon in Canada.

Ever tried giving funny answers to funny questions? It does work, not all the time, but, it does...
Next time, try answering that question like "Yes, I know English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, German, and Italian."
If the company interviewing you does a lot of localization testing, the job is YOURS!!!

    Re: Funny interviews for testers

"What languages (programming) do you know?" is not necessarily a stupid question to ask of a tester. Especially if that tester might be expected to develop automated tests. Without some background in some language, it will be VERY difficult to function as an automated test engineer. Most automated tools have a scripting language similar to VB or C. I always ask this question or something similar of my interviewees. Those that answer "none" are not necessarily out of the running, but it is a bonus to find someone who does have a development background.
